Thought Starters / Ideas for your own letter to the editor:
Why would we vote to give the Marquette School System money to destroy Bothwell Middle School? Surely the school is a bigger asset as it stands, possibly for sale, than an empty lot would be, and the savings would be massive. I have no problem voting to give more money to the schools... but I object to giving them money just so they can tear a building down. Could it be the school is afraid a competing school may buy the building?
Why are teachers considered state employees rather than local employees of their district? Teachers should be given a high salary, and use their own funds to purchase their own retirement plan and health benefits. There would be no unseen costs or liabilities, and districts would run in a much smoother manner. If a teacher leaves for another district, or another career, nothing would be lost, because the benefits would follow them. Certainly, those who are smart enough to teach our children are smart enough to handle their own future.
Why do democrats (and some republicans) need to use extreme rhetoric to make their points? If you are correct in your view, logic & facts are the only tools you should need. Anger, Name-Calling, Twisted Facts, and Outright Lies are tools used by those who know their arguments are not enough to win a debate.
